Great news! Clinaltec to open nuclear medicine service

¡Gran noticia! Clinaltec hará apertura del servicio de medicina nuclear

This new service will revolutionize medicine in Tolima. Patients will no longer have to travel to other cities to be diagnosed and treated.

Nuclear medicine has revolutionized diagnostic imaging by providing information on the functionality of the organs of interest using low doses of radiation.

For this reason, the Clínica Internacional de Alta Tecnología, Clinaltec, in its interest to strengthen the range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures against cancer, in addition to the treatment of other pathologies, has created the Nuclear Medicine service.

"Clinaltec's nuclear medicine unit has become one of the top services of its kind in Colombia. We are going to offer a comprehensive service to all our patients and they will no longer have to go to other cities because they will have all the services they need available in this unit," informed Dr. José Mosquera, a nuclear medicine specialist.

This area has the latest in diagnostic imaging technology: single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT-CT), positron emission tomography (PET-CT) and radiometabolic therapies.

Furthermore, in addition to providing functional information, it is fused with anatomical information from the tomographic study (CT), which improves the diagnosis of different pathologies, in particular the staging of cancer.

This service will also strengthen other areas of the institution: oncology, radiotherapy, oncological surgery, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, nephrology, urology, endocrinology, internal medicine and pediatrics.

"Around mid-July, we will be officially opening the service (...) Our differential is that we can make a functional precision diagnosis, we not only see the shape and location, but the metabolism and function of the different tissues and organs. We can establish, for example, in the case of oncology whether the tumor is still active after chemotherapy or radiotherapy. We will be able to perform precision medicine and provide both the treating physician and the patient and his or her family with the information they need to have the best possible treatment and diagnostic and therapeutic options," the nuclear medicine specialist added.
