Radiotherapy

We offer advanced radiotherapy for the treatment of various oncological diseases, using state-of-the-art technology to ensure accurate and effective treatments, with fewer side effects.

What is radiation therapy?

Radiation therapy is one of the most widely used cancer therapies for treating cancer. It is administered at different stages of the disease, either exclusively or in combination with other modalities such as surgical oncology or chemotherapy, to destroy cancer cells and reduce tumors.

Radiotherapy Service at Clinaltec

The scientific and technological advancement applied at Clinaltec has made it possible to use radiotherapy in malignant and benign diseases with therapeutic intent, whether curative or palliative.

The foregoing is thanks to the availability of two linear accelerators, one of them recently acquired, which allow the administration of ionizing radiation, controlled with a faster treatment speed than conventional accelerators.

Our technology allows us to perform fewer required radiotherapy sessions, which helps reduce the side effects of treatment for the patient.

Radiotherapy is administered to cancer patients using different techniques. The most common are external beam radiation therapy, where a machine outside the body directs radiation at the cancer, and internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy), where a radioactive source is placed inside the body near the cancer. The specific method, dosage, and treatment schedule depend on the type, size, and location of the cancer, as well as the patient's overall health.

Before starting treatment, the Clinaltec team of professionals will take body measurements to determine the correct angles for radiation emission and set appropriate doses. This planning session, called simulation, generally includes imaging studies.

Radiation therapy does not cause pain to the patient, and in the case of children, it is sometimes necessary to sedate them to ensure they do not move during radiation treatment. Each radiation therapy session will only last a few minutes.

Answer your questions about radiation therapy with our FAQs. Learn how it works and what to expect from the treatment

Radiation therapy is a treatment that uses radiation to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors. It is one of the most effective cancer therapies.

Radiation therapy can be given externally using machines that direct radiation to the tumor, or internally by placing radioactive materials near the cancer.

Side effects vary, but may include fatigue, skin irritation, and loss of appetite. Your doctor will help you manage them.

The duration depends on the type and stage of cancer, but is typically administered in daily sessions for several weeks.

Radiotherapy does not cause pain during administration. However, some patients may experience discomfort due to side effects after treatment.
