FAQ

Everything you need to know about PET/CT

Solve your doubts about PET/CT with our frequently asked questions. Learn how it works and what to expect from the treatment.

A PET/CT scan combines positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) to provide detailed images of the body, making it possible to detect metabolic and structural changes.

It is mainly used for diagnosis, staging, follow-up and evaluation of response to treatment in oncology patients, as well as to detect cardiac, neurological and other pathologies.

Generally, it is recommended to fast for at least 6 hours before the test and to avoid intense exercise. It is important to inform the physician of any medications or health conditions.

During the exam, the patient lies on a table that moves through the scanner. The injection of the radiopharmaceutical may cause a cold sensation. The procedure is generally painless and lasts approximately 30-60 minutes.

It provides highly detailed images that enable early and accurate diagnosis, improves treatment planning and monitors treatment effectiveness, helping to tailor therapies according to patient response.
